A Living Movement: Shaping a Just Future is the theme for the 2016 Gandhi-King Conference in Memphis, TN.
This two day event bringing together modern visionaries on nonviolence, justice and social change with community leaders, activists, academics, and organizers to train, learn, plan, and organize to create a culture of liberation and justice for all. Participants will engage in:
The 2016 conference will be held on the campus of the University of Memphis with a special dinner event at the National Civil Rights Museum.
DEADLINE FOR PROPOSALS is February 15, 2016
Notification of accepted proposals will be made by: February 22, 2016
Presentations and workshops should address racial, economic, environmental, and gender equality as they relate to historical and contemporary movements.
PRESENTERS: Presentation proposals from professors, activists, community members, students and other interested parties are welcome. Presenters will be provided some space to exhibit books and other publications at the conference.
SESSIONS: 75 Minutes
Proposal Suggestions:
We encourage interactive workshops. Including, but not limited to:
ACADEMIC TRACK: Panels, round-table discussions, and papers on the philosophy and theology of Gandhi and King, nonviolence and the arts, nonviolent theory, contemporary or historical case studies, and innovative ideas on shaping a just future for all.
ACTIVISM TRACK: Hands-on workshops, tools, techniques, and skill development in areas such as community building, nonviolent communication, sustainability, nonviolent education, economic, social, and environmental justice, et. al.
GENERAL TRACK: Themes and ideas not covered in Activism or Academia can be noted as a part of the general track.

- opportunities for networking and peer-to-peer learning with movement builders from all over the country.
- working groups that will continue the work throughout the year.
- a network of people who are new to the movement and movement leaders to share and inspire action in a cross-cultural and inter-generational environment.
- the opportunity to learn about best practices and develop new ones based upon our shared experience.
